Dear Co-laborers in Prayer,
God is at work in Europe. Last month, from February 11-15, we were privileged to participate in a European Enrichment Conference in England with other BMM European missionaries, representing ten countries. The speakers were Pastor Lew Davis from Cincinnati, OH, who spoke from the book of Ephesians, and Dr. Jack Klem, Old Testament professor from Virginia Beach, VA, who spoke from the Psalms. We were encouraged and challenged from the Word, and enjoyed the fellowship with our BMM colleagues, getting to know them better and hearing what God is doing throughout Europe. On the last evening we sang "Amazing Grace" together and then we sang a verse in the language in which we minister. Pray that the Lord will call others to help reach the people on the needy continent of Europe.
It is also encouraging to see God using us here in Germany. Burdette has the opportunity to preach once each month at our church in Erlangen, teach the midweek Bible study occasionally, and co-teach a class in Homiletics (preaching) with Oliver, the German pastor of our church, and teach Bible Interpretation in Lisberg. We have been given other opportunities to minister, such as Burdette speaking to the young adults group on biblical ethics relating to the unborn and teaching/preaching on the Thessalonian epistles in a church in Ingolstadt, as well as Mary Jane teaching a group of children's workers. Pray that Germans will be equipped to reach, plant churches among and minister to other Germans. Pray also for Daniel, a young man in our church who recently turned down a significant position at his place of employment, because he feels that the Lord wants Him to prepare for the ministry.
We are planning a summer furlough, from May 12-September 11. We plan to visit one half of our supporting churches, and will visit the other half in two years. Pray that the Lord will use us to minister to the churches and to call others to help our BMM team in Germany. We are looking forward to seeing family and friends during this time.
Pray also for the exchange rate of the dollar. The dollar continues to reach record lows against the Euro. Since we receive our support in dollars, this affects our cost of living here. to give you an example, the current amount of our rent at the exchange rate when the Euro was introduced in 2002 would have been $ 730. At the present exchange the same amount costs $ 1300. Pray that the dollar will increase in value, which would be a help to all of us serving in Europe.
Thank you for your faithful prayers. We serve a great God!
Burdette & Mary Jane
